Florida's contractor licensing requirements include education/experience qualifications, a two-part state examination, insurance, financial stability, and ongoing continuing education through the CILB.
Experience Paths
- 4 years active, diversified construction experience
- 4-year construction degree + 1 year experience
- 2-year construction degree + 2 years experience
- NASCLA reciprocal license from another state
Examination
- Part 1: Business and finance (accounting, law, OSHA, liens)
- Part 2: Trade knowledge (methods, codes, estimating)
- Computer-based, multiple-choice, open-book
- Pass rates: 50-70%; retake after 30 days
Continuing Education
- 14 hours per 2-year renewal cycle
- Mandatory: safety, business, workers' comp, building code, laws
- 9 hours elective construction courses
- CILB-approved providers required
